Introducing Animated Diagrams

Today we are introducing Animated Diagrams in ToDiagram, a new way to present diagrams step by step.

Most diagrams are easy to build, but hard to explain.

Large diagrams create cognitive overload because everything appears at once. People spend time figuring out where to look before they can follow the flow.

Animated Diagrams solves this with sequence and focus. It reveals nodes and edges step by step in a guided order, so viewers can follow one part of the system at a time.

Mermaid diagrams are a strong fit because they are often dense and shown all at once in docs, pull requests, and design notes. Animated Diagrams makes these flows easier to present in reviews and meetings.

Where It Helps

  • Design and architecture reviews: Walk the flow in order so the room can focus on one decision at a time.
  • Documentation walkthroughs: Present dense diagrams without forcing readers to parse every connection at once.
  • Onboarding: Guide new teammates through the system path by path before they dive into code.
  • Team demos and updates: Explain process changes clearly for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Async handoffs: Share a short walkthrough so teammates can understand the flow before reviewing docs or code.

Try It

  1. Open the diagram menu in the top-left of the editor.
  2. Click Animate Diagram.

If your diagram already works for reference, Animated Diagrams makes it ready for presentation.
